FUNDS RAISED FOR D-DENT
OKC- Cool breezy weather welcomed D-DENT golfers and enabled 18 enthusiastic teams to raise over $15,000 for Dentists for the Disabled and Elderly in Need of Treatment on Friday June 11, 2010 at Silverhorn Golf Club. The fundraiser celebrated and honored the memory of Sgt. J. Brandon "Boomer" Harris.
Federal Express "FedEx" was the generous Corporate Sponsor, hosting 7 teams, with Silver Sponsors being Great Southwest Dental Lab, Henry Schein/Kerr, and Jimmy Sims with Crest. Two Heritage Hall Alumni, Randy Harris from California and Wendell Stewart of Oklahoma City, teamed up for this event. A "rowdy" group of Capitol Hill Alumni rallied their support and were happy to report "no hubcaps went missing."
D-DENT is an innovative organization that mobilizes a state-wide network of volunteer dentists; a statewide non-profit dental program that offers complete restorative treatment to Oklahoma residents free of charge.
The money raised will go towards helping Oklahoman's regain their smiles by restoring the oral health of elderly, developmentally disabled, and uninsured clients with special needs.
Breakfast and lunch were served, a Silent Auction was held, raffle gifts were given away, and trophies were awarded- including golf playing horses for last place!
As the 12th Annual Tournament came to an end, another successful day was enjoyed by all players and volunteers.
Established in 1986, the program has served more than 9,000 needy citizens, with over $1.9 million dollars of service donated by volunteer dentists last year alone. In 2006, D-DENT received the prestigious Champion of Senior Health award from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma.
Thanks to the humorous skills of motivational speaker Dan Baker, MC for the event, the raffle and awards ceremony were a huge triumph. D-DENT extends a special thanks to boxer Sean O'Grady, OSU Golf Champion Patty Zimmer, and football greats Jason White, Steve Owens, Joe Washington and Uwe VonSchamman for their continued support of this worthy cause.
