Restorative Dental Care Program

The Restorative Dental Care program matches volunteer dentists throughout the state with eligible D-DENT applicants. Dentists restore the oral health of each D-DENT patient in the comfort of their private clinics, free of charge.

The Restorative Dental Care program is our longest-running program and has become known as an honorable source for charitable dentistry. Through this program, the most vulnerable populations, which include veterans, disabled and/or seniors—who are low-income and uninsured—can receive free comprehensive dental care.

This program provides:

● Free, comprehensive dental care from dental professionals in private clinics.
● Multiple visits and procedures as needed for full-mouth restoration.
● Lab bills are covered by D-DENT, at no cost to dental professionals.
● Coordination of eligible patients with dental professionals near their area.

In Oklahoma, there are limited dental resources available to low-income, uninsured residents. D-DENT is committed to recruiting and partnering with dentists across the state to make significant and lasting differences in the lives of eligible Oklahomans.

Oral Health Education Outreach

Oral health is a key indicator of overall health, well-being and quality of life. Through our Oral Health Education Outreach program, D-DENT provides education and behavioral interventions to seniors and disabled adults in order to share strategies to help improve and maintain a healthy mouth. Because of the many health concerns within this already vulnerable population, oral problems are often overlooked and may be contributors to existing illnesses.

During outreach sessions, a registered dental hygienist provides education, individualized oral hygiene instructions and oral cancer screenings to participants and caretakers in group homes, senior nutrition centers, adult day centers and living centers in central Oklahoma.

Our Oral Health Education Outreach sessions cover a variety of topics, including, but not limited to:

● Infections, tooth loss and the inability to chew.
● The impact of oral health on overall health and nutrition.
● Empowering proactive behaviors.
● Targeted oral health skills.
● Maintaining daily hygiene and denture care.
● Information regarding access to dental care.
● Oral Cancer education and awareness.
● Oral Cancer screenings.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Early detection of oral cancer is key. More than 43,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral or pharyngeal cancer each year. These cancers can lead to death, killing roughly one person per hour, 24 hours a day. And, worse, only slightly more than those diagnosed live past five years of their diagnosis. However, when found at early stages, those with oral cancers have an 80-90% survival rate.

Through D-DENT’s Oral Health Education Outreach sessions, participants are offered free, on-site screenings for oral cancer using a number of methods, including:

● Visual screening.
● Palpitation.
● Identafi® filtered light examination (when available).
